Labour History Queensland - how it began

QCU General Secretary Grace Grace delivered the inaugural address to Labour History Queensland Inc. on Tuesday 5 October 2004.

The address was entitled "The history of the Queensland Council of Unions" and gave a brief overview of the sometimes tumultuous history of the organisation now known as the Queensland Council of Unions.

LAUNCH OF LABOUR HISTORY QUEENSLAND

Dawson Petie, former ACTUQ/QCU General Secretary, officially launched Labour History Queensland at the QCU's Biennial Conference Dinner which was held on Tuesday 26 October 2004 (Click here to download Dawson's speech).

Other Labour History Queensland Executive members in attendance were Barbara Webster, Deborah Ralston (QCU Industrial Officer), Michael Clifford (QCU Executive member) and Tom Schulz (QCU Executive member).

EUREKA STOCKADE 150 YEAR CELEBRATION

Around 50 Labour History Queensland supporters and friends gathered at the Terminus Hotel to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Eureka Stockade on Friday 3 December 2004.

LHQ Executive members Steve Ross led the discussion, outlining the events leading up to the battle and then invited discussion on what had happened in the years after Eureka and what had been learnt from it.
