35 000 say no to Howard's IR laws
Over 35 000 workers, their families and concerned citizens joined with unions on Labour Day to voice their disapproval at the Federal Government's new workplace changes. Federal Opposition Leader, Kim Beazley and ACTU President, Sharan Burrow joined union leaders and state politicians in the biggest Labour Day march ever witnessed in Brisbane.

New Venue!!
For the first time in almost 20 years, the 2006 celebrations were held at the RNA Showgrounds to accommodate for the fantastic increase in numbers. Union tents, stalls, kids rides and food stalls were all set up in the main arena making for a lively, carnival-type atmosphere.
March route
The march route was as follows:
- assemble cnr Wharf and Turbot Streets
- turn left into Turbot Street
- merge into Wickham Street
- turn left into Brunswick Street
- turn right into St Pauls Terrace
- turn left into Alexandria Street
- enter RNA Showgrounds
